The God who loves us does not loves us religiously as freely and unconditionally He loves us! Likewise God does not require us to love and serve Him religiously. He prefer our love for Him to be genuine and free of religious pretense which is loving for the sake of loving without the revelation of His Grace and finished work. The gospel of His grace and finished work should be the starting point of our every beginning because that is where we were given a new lease of life to be able to live His life that is already pleasing to Him. God gave us unique personalities so that we can freely express our love for Him in our own way. The extravagant effect of His love for us cannot be contained within a limited span of our human reasoning and neither can it be reciprocated via a rigid religious system because that is not how He loves us. The sacrifice of Christ is holy but not religious. Jesus set Himself apart for us according to the Father’s will because He loves us. The motivation of His sacrifice is not religion but agape love and unmerited favor. Likewise as we love Him, it is through His love and grace.
Holiness is not religiousity. Holiness is your new nature in Christ, it is who you already are without having to work for it. You are sanctified by His grace and not your works. You are made righteous because of His obedience at the Cross and not by your religious merits. Jesus died to set you apart from slavery and guilt. He died to give you a holy conscience of your peace with God so that you no longer have to be driven by fear to love Him. You can love Him freely because He freely loves you too.
Let your desire and motivation to love God be out of His love for you because we are incapable of loving anyone unless we receive His love first.
